Abraham Maslow Quotes

After working on a number of white papers about Maslow's Needs Hierarchy, I thought it would be a nice idea to add a few Abraham Maslow Quotes.

Here are a few of the Maslow quotes I've become most fond of. See if they tickle your fancy as much as they do mine.

  • A first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting.
  • A husband's conviction that his wife is beautiful, or a wife's firm belief that her husband is courageous, to some extent creates the beauty or the

courage. This is not so much a perception of something that already exists as a bringing into existence by belief.

  • A stupid man behaves stupidly, not because he wants to, or tries to, or is motivated to, but simply because he is what he is.
  • Dispassionate objectivity is itself a passion, for the real and for the truth.
  • Even the 'bad' choice is 'good for' the neurotic chooser.
  • I have discovered the missing link between the anthropoid apes and civilized men. It's us!
  • If I were dropped out of a plane into the ocean and told the nearest land was a thousand miles away, I'd still swim. And I'd despise the

    one who gave up.

  • If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.
  • Sickness might consist of not having symptoms when you should.
  • The good society is one in which virtue pays.
  • The lover perceives in the beloved what no one else can.
  • The more evolved and psychologically healthy people get, the more will enlightened management policy be necessary in order to survive in

competition and the more handicapped will be an enterprise with an authoritarian policy.

  • The really bright student, the eager questioner, the probing searcher, especially if he is brighter than his teacher, is too often seen as a

'wise guy,' a threat to discipline, a challenger of his teacher's authority.

  • We fear to know the fearsome and unsavory aspects of ourselves, but we fear even more to know the godlike in ourselves.
  • What shall we think of a well-adjusted slave?
  • Who is to say that a lack of love is less important than a lack of vitamins?
